A cottage shaped by time

Every table begins with the island
Mallard Cottage is a wood-frame Irish-Newfoundland cottage in Quidi Vidi Village, built in the 18th century and lived in for generations before it became a kitchen. We opened the doors as a restaurant in 2013.
The brief has not changed: cook what is near, cook it over fire, and make the room feel like someone's home — because it was.
The cottage reopens as a restaurant after a long restoration.
The wood oven goes in. Everything starts touching fire.
Brunch, dinner, the larder, and a table for anyone who knocks.

Let the ingredient lead
The menu follows the boats, the berries and the cellar — never the other way around.

We brine, cure, smoke, pickle and preserve. Bread, butter and coffee are made here, slowly, by hand.

A 300-year-old cottage taught us to keep the stove hot and the door open.

A five-minute drive from downtown St. John's, at the edge of the harbour. Park by the brewery and follow the smell of the wood oven.
